Daily Dose of Inspiration

“The doctor of the future will give no medication, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.”

~ Thomas A. Edison

Well, my friend, at first I wanted to ask, “when will we get to this future?” But that would be implying that it’s the doctors’ fault for the exponential growth of the pharmaceutical industry when, in fact, we’re all a part of it.

Don’t we all just want that quick fix, a little pill that will solve our problem? But problems, like diseases, don’t just pop up over night. They develop over time, typically from our regular, repeated behaviors and habits. To truly solve a problem, we need to get to the root cause and treat that.

Let’s start with the word disease, my friend, and break it down: Dis-ease. You know how you feel when you’re at ease. Calm and relaxed, right? So what are the causes of the “dis” part of the word, the elements in your life that limit that ease? These are what need to be addressed and corrected.

If we could all take responsibility for all the various ways we treat our body — diet, exercise, rest, mental outlook, etc. — and be willing to remove the impediments to the ease and flow of graceful living, our well meaning doctors would have a much easier time being that “doctor of the future.”
