“Sad thing is when people let something like a cramp scare them. Some people always looking for an excuse to quit. Any little pain, any little twinge, they bring in the towel, run up the white flag, say to the body, ‘Okay, you win.’ Even sadder thing is the body hasn’t won when they do that, no one has won, except maybe the old-age doctors.”

Excerpted from the book Bikram’s Beginning Yoga Class by Bikram Choudhury

Don’t give up on yourself, my friend. Drum up your faith and patience and with diligence and determination you’ll accomplish your goals. Just remember, it’s darkest before the dawn.

No being afraid of the dark now, ya hear?

“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things.”

~ Steve Jobs

In some way, every experience you’ve had will serve you in the future. We spend years gathering information, even from useless jobs, abandoned projects, or dead end relationships — no experience is wasted.

You’ll see, it will all come together and make sense when the time is right.

“Suffering is always the result of wrong thought in some direction. It is an indication that the individual is out of harmony with himself, with the Law of his being. The sole and supreme use of suffering is to purify, to burn out all that is useless and impure. Suffering ceases for him who is pure.”

~ James Allen

Until we are pure in thought, we will suffer. That’s all there is to it.

Live and learn, my friend. This is the path to enlightenment.

“Begin to see yourself as a soul with a body rather than a body with a soul.”

~ Wayne Dyer

You filled your body with life as you took your first breath, and you will leave your body behind when you die. Your body, like everyone else’s, is a physical manifestation with limitations. Your body cannot fly (unaided, that is), but you, as spirit, can; your imagination can take you anywhere you want to go.

Acknowledge spirit, my friend, it’s the real you. Be your highest self.

“Environment is stronger than will power. If you want to be spiritual, seek good company and don’t mix with those whose bad habits may wrongly influence you. Be always with people who inspire you; surround yourself with people who lift you up.”

~ Paramahansa Yogananda

When you need a boost of energy to lift your spirits, go where you’ll see happy, smiling faces. When you need to get out of a funk, do something that will distract you from your woes. When you want to feel energized, exercise. When you want to feel cleansed, sweat.

Whether you want to change physically, emotionally, or mentally, there’s one sure-fire formula to heal everything at once. That’s right, my friend, Bikram Yoga, where you concentrate, meditate, sweat, work hard, and help fuel the group energy that lifts everyone higher.

“Always do your best.”

“Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.”

Excerpted from the book The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

We can be our own worst critic and often that is simply self-destructive. First and foremost, we have to preserve our personal integrity. If you’ve let yourself or someone else down, acknowledge your mistake, make proper amends, and then let it go.

Avoiding a mistake in the first place or cleaning one up afterwards are both a part of always doing your best.

CONFLICT

“Only speak knowledge. Do not repeat anything bad that someone tells you about someone else. When someone comes to tell you negative things, discourage them. Do not believe it.

“If someone blames you directly, do not believe it. Just know that they are taking away your bad karma and let it go. If you are one of the master’s close ones, you will take all the blame of the world with a smile.

“Conflict is the nature of the world; comfort is the nature of the Self. Amidst the conflict seek the comfort. Trying to end conflict prolongs it. Face the conflict by seeking the comfort of the Self…

“People who love peace do not want to fight, and those who fight do not love peace. Those who want peace want to run away. What is needed is to be peaceful within and then fight. This is the whole message of the Bhagavad Gita. Krishna tells Arjuna to fight but to be in peace at the same time.”

~ Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

When you are aligned with Spirit, you have certainty and clarity such that conflict cannot control you. You’ll know exactly what needs to be done to end your involvement and be free to embrace your future.

Find the comfort of the Self, my friend; be guided from within.

“How do you live when you believe the thought that your body should be different? How does that feel? “I’ll be happy later, when my body is healed.” “I should be thinner, healthier, prettier, younger.” This is very old religion. If I think my body should be different from what it is now, I’m out of my business. I’m out of my mind!

“I’m not asking you to let go of your body, as if such a thing were possible. I’m asking you to own your body, to care for it, to take a look at your beliefs about it, to put them on paper, inquire, and turn them around.”

Excerpted from the book Loving What Is by Byron Katie with Stephen Mitchell

You know, we could eliminate so much unnecessary suffering if only we could adapt a perspective that allows us to examine our thoughts and beliefs before we let them take control of our behavior and circumstances.

Fortunately, it’s never too late to turn your mind back into your best friend instead of your worst enemy. And lucky you, to have Bikram Yoga where you get to fine tune your mind and your body at the same time.

Flowing Blessings

“…shows us the process by which change can happen in the inner self: Once a slight ripple happens, the whole is affected, so it is not necessary to continually “stir the soup.”"

Excerpted from the book The Sufi Book of Life by Neil Douglas-Klotz

Ah, my friend, relax, allow your growth to unfold naturally. Even when things seem calm there’s much more going on below the surface than we are aware of.

As with simmering a soup, a slow integration allows for a more thorough blending of the elements and a richer experience in the long run.

Enjoy the anticipation.

“In nature we never see anything isolated, but everything in connection with something else which is before it, beside it, under it and over it.”

~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

There is no escaping nature. You are a part of nature. Your actions, in great or small ways, affect all around you, just as you are affected by all around you.

But you know, in a simplified fashion, the word yoga means union and is the study of the inter-connectedness of all that is. Interesting, don’t you think? Practicing yoga is like studying the mastery of nature.
