“The marvelous richness of human experience would lose something of rewarding joy if there were no limitations to overcome. The hilltop hour would not be half so wonderful if there were no dark valleys to traverse.”

~ Helen Keller

We learn and grow through life’s challenges and often the knowledge gained is proportionate to the struggle undergone. After all, a triumph isn’t much of a triumph if there wasn’t any struggle. We gain the clarity, strength, smarts and wisdom necessary to climb mountains.

All of life’s contrasts help us to shape our future. Just keep in mind, the old “been there, done that, and not going there again” statement is loaded with power but it’s not complete. While it’s good to know what you don’t want, it’s best to know what you do want.

Use your energy wisely, my friend, climb only the mountains you want to climb.

“If you look into your own heart, and you find nothing wrong there, what is there to worry about? What is there to fear?”

~ Confucius

Don’t just look within, my friend, go within. The more you wend your way inward the more of your divinity you will discover. You will see that within there is nothing but purity.

Reside in your heart, speak from your heart, act from your heart, and all those around you will be drawn to do the same. There is never anything to worry about when you come from your heart.

Be honest, be genuine, and be love.

“Life is utterly simple and yet most complex. You have to simultaneously attend to both facets of life. When life appears most complex, turn to simplicity. Simplicity brings peace. When you are peaceful attend to the complexity within you. That will make you more skillful…

“All that you need is a skillful balance. If you recognize both the simplicity and the complexity of life, you will be skillfully peaceful.”

~ Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

The only constant in life is change. If we become too complacent with life, it is sure to throw us a curve ball to challenge us to grow.

Mastering the skillful balance between simplicity and complexity allows us to make the most of every pitch. This is the best way to enjoy this game of life!

“When you reside in your heart, you see all of life through the eyes of love, and all your experiences are imbued with this sweetest of all nectars. Food tastes better, music sounds better, even the sky seems bluer when you are anchored in your heart! Health improves with the awakened heart. Your thymus gland, which secretes important hormones for your immune system, is activated at the heart level, so it is literally true: love heals.”

Excerpted from the book The Pursuit of Happiness by David Pond

Love heals, my friend. You know it. You can feel it in your heart.

And when you stray, as we all do at times, just start appreciating the blessings in your life. Start with the often overlooked ones like the roof over your head, that you have food to eat, water to drink.

Appreciating anything attracts more things to appreciate, and soon, you’ll be deep in your heart and embraced by healing love.

“When we are able to recognize and forgive ignorant actions done in one’s past, we strengthen ourselves and can solve the problems of the present constructively.”

~ The Dalai Lama

Whether done by yourself or someone else, whether committed in innocence or with spite, regrettable actions are always ignorant; ignorant of the long term effects they have on everyone involved.

Find the compassion necessary to see that ignorant actions are taken by someone who is in some way suffering and simply wants to feel better. Ignorant actions are never taken from the space of wholeness that comes with being aligned with one’s higher self.

In retrospect, the only constructive course of action is to forgive. Forgiveness calls your attention from the past to the present and releases the judgment that keeps you from being whole.

Forgiveness heals the forgiver, my friend. Try it.

“Although the intellect and mind can never stand alone, please don’t ever diminish the importance of your thoughts! They are the foundation of belief systems, perceptions, and ultimately the architect of what we manifest on the physical plane. If you want to know what your future looks like, take a look at your current thinking!”

~ C.A. Brooks

So how’s your future looking, my friend? Are you setting yourself up for fights and struggle, or are you laying the groundwork for smooth sailing into the life you want?

It’s actually very empowering when you finally get it. If you don’t like where you’re going, all you have to do is shift your perspective and change your thoughts and beliefs. It doesn’t have to be difficult, but you do have to be honest.

You’re the one in the driver’s seat.

“Fear is a habit; I am not afraid.”

~ Aung San Suu Kyi

Are you prone to worry? Does this feel like the natural and right thing to do? Would you call it a habit?

With everything in life we can choose to focus on what we want or we can choose to focus on its opposite — like the reasons why we don’t have it, why we can’t have it, why we need it, etc. There is a dramatic difference in how these two patterns of thought affect us. One empowers and inspires us while the other poisons us.

You can always tell whether your thoughts are helping you or harming you by the way you feel. Never let your fears rule your life!

“The major problem in society today is mental over-stimulation and physical under-stimulation.”

~ Emmy Cleaves, Principal of Bikram’s Yoga College of India headquarters

Have you ever stopped to note all the sources of mental stimulation you are exposed to? How many are there? Are they positive or negative? Do the thoughts they provoke in you feel good?

Don’t just fall into the trap like everyone else, my friend. Take stock and determine if your mind is working for you or against you. When things are rough, what does it take to turn off your mind?

If you’re like the rest of us, just one good Bikram Yoga class and problem’s solved!

When’s class?

“Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country.”

~ Anais Nin

It’s only by releasing your dreams that they can take flight, my friend. Let them go.

While you can never know for certain exactly when or how, you can rest assured that, once fully mature, they’ll return home with special gifts in tow. You may forget them, but they’ll never forget you.

And now I adopt the conspiratorial whisper of a lover,
for the best I am loves you.
You have done and can do no wrong that I do not share.
Nothing can modify my love for you.
In harmony may the thoughts fashioned here
remind you of what you’ve always known.
To the canons of man this single line is added:
“Truth is what you create it to be.”

By these lines you are introduced to the Creative Path.
You may turn away and embrace the belief systems of others,
but having once heard, the whisper shall never leave thee.

Excerpted from the book Living Deliberately by Harry Palmer

This whisper is your inner voice, my friend. It’s calling you to explore. To be open to new truths, new possibilities.

Could it be true, as Bikram says, that we have no idea how powerful we really are? Could we really change our life experience simply by changing our beliefs?

Hmmm… Which do you choose, the red pill or the blue pill?
