Question: “Why are we imperfect?”

Which perspective works better for you, my friend, imperfection at every step or movement from one perfection to another?

But really the best question to be asking of yourself is, “What am I becoming?”

And don’t forget, if you don’t like your answer you can always direct your attention somewhere else.

What is, is what is, my friend. It is the current reality. But that does not mean it will be forever more.

Resistance will only prolong your suffering but the sooner you accept what is, the sooner you can begin formulating a different future.

You just have to know that you are creating your future in every moment — so imagine it the way you want it!

Peace, my friend, is your heart’s natural state. Love, compassion, faith, trust, appreciation, acceptance, peace — these are all natural states for your heart. Fear, however, like worry or a need to control, is only present when your heart’s natural states are blocked.

Any of these states, from love to fear, can be conjured by the mind for better or worse. Your mind really is that powerful. But if you just quiet your mind, peace will return to its rightful place.

If you’re like the rest of us, when it comes to Bikram Yoga you love it and hate it. Sometimes it’s scary. Sometimes it’s frustrating. Sometimes it’s challenging. Sometimes it’s fun. Sometimes it’s exhilarating. But always, my friend, it’s revealing — to those who are looking, that is.

What can you learn about yourself in class today? What in you needs to be revealed so it can be healed?

Bring it on, my friend. Bikram Yoga is about transformation. It’s about learning to love yourself… learning to love life.

It’s normal to feel anger at times. Just don’t get stuck in it! Anger, hatred, resentment are all negative polarities of love and appreciation — the vibrations of spirit. We are always at our best when aligned with spirit. We feel our best, we look our best, our bodies return to their healthiest state, and all our interactions with others go best when we are aligned with spirit.

Now, it’s not like your spirit could ever be wasted, but every moment you are out of alignment with who you are as spirit you suffer. Is that what you want? Don’t you want to feel good?

Forgive, my friend. Think of forgiveness as a gift to yourself. It brings you back into alignment with the best of you and the best of life.

Every religion, every teaching, has goodness and truths. There’s nothing new out there. All these thoughts and quotes we share, none are unique. But it may just be, my friend, that your voice brings new meaning to them, or that someone comes along and expresses them in a way that finally makes perfect sense to you.

Run everything through your own filters. Take what’s good, take what works, and incorporate it into your life. Leave the rest behind. Be open to all avenues and know that each will somehow provide its gem.

You are what’s unique, my friend. Keep it that way.

What are you looking for, my friend? Are you looking for truth? Or do you want the security, stability, and reliability that comes with what’s already known? Not that truth can’t come with the latter, it’s just that how can you know it’s the truth if you can’t see beyond it’s limits?

Open your mind to explore all possibilities at all times. This is what being flexible is all about — breaking free of limitations. There’s a connection between a flexible mind and a flexible body. Train yourself to recognize your patterns in both your yoga practice and your life and then look beyond them.

Imagine the possibilities, my friend. Set yourself free!

It’s easy to see what’s wrong out there, and automatically we want to change it. But forcing change from the outside creates strife and struggle and may never be accepted. Our real power comes from our willingness to change within.

And you know, you might even find that once you’ve changed within, what’s wrong out there is no longer an issue.

Befriend yourself. Get to know yourself, every aspect of yourself — the good, the bad, and the ugly — and recognize that there is nothing wrong with you. You are simply a human being prone to occasional missteps.

And with all the love, compassion, and understanding that you would extend to a child, appreciate your uniqueness and challenges. Honestly, my friend, life wouldn’t be very interesting if we were perfect. Think of it, what comes after perfection?
