“How much more grievous are the consequences of anger than the causes of it.”

~ Marcus Aurelius

It’s natural to feel anger, my friend, just like it’s natural to feel every other emotion. But negative emotions are sending you the potent message that your thoughts are out of alignment with who you are as Spirit. And the stronger the negative emotion, the worse it is!

Now, don’t beat yourself up about it, it’s simply what you’re feeling. But do recognize it for what it is: your mind holding onto a thought or belief that is not true for You.

Be careful to not take action when you’re in the midst of the furies. While it might feel good in the moment, you’ll regret it later.

“You don’t need to be better than anyone else, you just need to be better than you used to be.”

~ Dr. Wayne Dyer

Your self worth has nothing to do with those around you, my friend. It is 100% about how you feel about you. So cut yourself some slack — no one is perfect.

We are all doing the best we can, from where we are, with what we have. And keep in mind that that will shift from moment to moment.

No good comes from picking on yourself, or on anyone else for that matter.

“Be impeccable with your word.

“Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.”

~ Don Miguel Ruiz, The Four Agreements

We always feel best when we’re honest and kind. And don’t you like it when you can trust that others mean what they say?

But, more importantly, my friend, be aware of your emotional state when you speak. Are you angry? Sad? Frustrated? Happy? Grateful?

We are emotional beings. People respond to the intention behind your words and to your emotional state much more than they respond to the words themselves.

As long as you speak honestly and from your heart you can trust that you’re integrity will remain intact and you won’t go wrong.

“The human mind is far more fertile, far more incredible and mysterious than the land, but it works the same way. It doesn’t care what we plant…success…or failure. A concrete, worthwhile goal…or confusion, misunderstanding, fear, anxiety, and so on. But what we plant it must return to us.

“You see the human mind is the last great, unexplored continent on earth. It contains riches beyond our wildest dreams. It will return anything we want to plant.”

~ Earl Nightingale, The Strangest Secret

You know that saying, “the grass is always greener on the other side”? Well, the truth is that the grass is greenest where you water it. So regardless of all the seeds you may have planted in the past, from here on out water only the ones you want to grow.

Be discerning, my friend. You reap what you sow and nurture.

“When someone I have helped, or in whom I have placed great hope, harms me with great injustice, may I see that one as a sacred friend.”

~ The Dalai Lama

What does it take to learn true compassion? Unconditional love? While it may not be easy, we can eventually forgive most injustices and betrayals. But the true test of your willingness to keep your heart open under all circumstances will only come about through great injustices. It’s in this sense that these perpetrators become sacred friends, the type that teach you what love really is.

How long are you willing to suffer being cut off from love in the way a closed heart does? Grace and good things can only flow through an open heart.

Forgiveness opens your heart, my friend, so you’re the one who benefits.

“Every time you are tempted to react in the same old way, ask if you want to be a prisoner of the past or a pioneer of the future.”

~ Deepak Chopra

Nothing will change outside, my friend, until you change inside. Your experiences in life (the world outside) is merely a reflection of the thoughts you’ve been harboring inside.

Did you know that your thoughts are literally creating an electrical current that runs throughout your central nervous system? Your body responds to the signal generated by your thoughts with your emotions (emotion = energy in motion) which in turn creates a magnetic field. Your body is constantly radiating an electro-magnetic force field based upon the thoughts you are consciously or otherwise thinking. Everyone and everything around you can’t help but sense and respond to your vibration.

So what you have now is a chance to consciously take stock of where you are — recognizing that where you are now is a reflection of the thoughts and beliefs that you have been operating through — and decide on what you want your future to be like. What is the ideal version of you? How would the ideal version of you think and behave?

Guess what, my friend? You can start right now becoming that person! The new YOU. How does that you feel?

“Man either goes forward to imagination or remains imprisoned in his senses. To go forward to imagination is to forgive. Forgiveness is the life of the imagination.”

~ Neville Goddard

Do you get that as we focus our attention we are creating our future? If you do, then you realize that by focusing on what is you are just creating more of the same. And there you have why you may find yourself lamenting that nothing ever changes!

Thank goodness that we can use our imagination to get beyond what is and see to a future that is more to our liking. It’s a tremendous gift. And it’s fully possible as long as we’re willing to let go of our attachment to what is now and any and all hurts of the past. Simply let the past be the past. Without letting go there’s no space or possibility for the new, right?

So, my friend, are you willing to sacrifice your suffering, resentment and any other negative emotion you’ve been holding onto and allow the space for grace and happiness to flow in your life? Bottom line, that’s what it all boils down to.

When I asked God for strength,
He gave me difficult situations to face.

When I asked God for brain and brawn,
He gave me puzzles in life to solve.

When I asked God for happiness,
He showed me some unhappy people.

When I asked God for wealth,
He showed me how to work hard.

When I asked God for favors,
He showed me opportunities to work hard.

When I asked God for peace,
He showed me how to help others.

God gave me nothing I wanted,
He gave me everything I needed.

~ Swami Vivekananda

As parents, are we not responsible for teaching our children and helping them develop the characteristics they’ll need to grow into independent adults, able to contribute to society in their own unique way? And what if, my friend, He can only do for you what He can do through you? You wouldn’t want to be an obstacle to that progress now, would you?

Living, learning, growing, and evolving never stops. Sometimes to get from where you are now to where you want to be will require some new skills, some new perspectives, a more evolved you. Whether we see it as it’s unfolding or not, we can trust that everything serves a purpose.

Patience and faith, my friend. Hindsight is 20/20.

“A man cannot be comfortable without his own approval.”

~ Mark Twain

There is nothing more damaging than a negative self judgement, my friend. It is a sure sign of being out of alignment with your higher self and all that is good in life. We have to approve of ourselves — to like who we are — in order to feel good.

We are all human beings and of course we’ll make mistakes. But mistakes are not corrected through punishment, including the negative self judgement type of punishment. If you’ve made a mistake or don’t feel good about something, then do something to turn it around. Apologize, make amends if necessary, and above all forgive yourself.

No atonement (a.k.a. at-one-ment or alignment with your Higher Self) is complete without forgiveness. If you’d known better, or were truly aligned with your higher self, you wouldn’t have done it. Right? All of us are simply doing the best we can with what we have from where we are in every given moment.

Forgive, my friend, yourself and others. Comfort awaits.

“Betrayal is about learning not to idealize external sources.”

~ Linda Talley

Put anything on a pedestal and it’s bound to fall off someday. But once it’s fallen, you’re not as likely to be putting it or anything else up there again, right?

Live and learn, my friend. That’s what life’s all about.

But I have another question for you. Who’s really done the betraying? Is it that they betrayed you or did your belief about them betray you?

We have no real control over anything external. We are responsible for ourselves — our thoughts and actions. While it’s not always easy, we can control these. And not only that, our power expands as we master them.

Remember, my friend, great leaders live up to the ideals they set of and for themselves. Become a great leader.
