“Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a great adventure or nothing.”

~ Helen Keller

Would you call your life a great adventure, my friend? Are you having fun and enjoying yourself? Are you able to experience at least some of the great pleasures that life has to offer?

Well, I hope you are. But if not, then it’s time to set some new priorities. After all, you will never know what nature might have in store. So face your fears head on and start going after your dreams.

Just what is it that you would LOVE?

“Man often suffers loss through lack of appreciation.”

~ Florence Scovel Shinn

Don’t let this be you, my friend. Look around you. There is so much to appreciate.

Heck, you have a roof over your head, water to drink, food to eat, clothes to wear, and access to the internet, right? And have you noticed how simply appreciating that — that your most basic needs are met — has changed how you feel?

The more you appreciate, the more your heart opens and that brings more to appreciate your way. But you’d better know that this snowball effect works either way.

So you get to choose, my friend, will your day be filled with appreciation or will you be disgruntled?

“Ultimately, when you open your heart to yourself, you will find you have compassion for everything and everybody.”

~ Debbie Ford, The Dark Side of the Light Chasers

You know, my friend, it’s okay to be imperfect. In fact, it’s natural to be imperfect. Haven’t you noticed how it’s those imperfections that make us all unique and interesting? Plus, they create opportunity for growth.

Now, there’s nothing wrong with striving for perfection, but to condemn yourself or others for imperfections simply reflects a closed heart. Release those negative judgments about yourself and others, my friend, and you’ll open your heart so that love and compassion can flow. This, after all, is what we’re all longing for anyway.

“It’s easier for a human being to think negatively than positively. That’s why only five percent are successful. You must begin now to place yourself in that group.”

~ Earl Nightingale

It takes discipline to train your mind to follow a positive track. You must utilize diligence and perseverance and have plenty of compassion so you can redirect quickly when you get off track.

Be forgiving, my friend. No one is perfect all the time. The more quickly you forgive yourself and others, the more quickly you’ll move back onto the track to success.

“Life is a good teacher and a good friend. Things are always in transition, if we could only realize it. Nothing ever sums itself up in the way that we like to dream about. The off-center, in-between state is an ideal situation, a situation in which we don’t get caught and we can open our hearts and minds beyond limit. It’s a very tender, nonaggressive, open-ended state of affairs.”

~ Pema Chodron

Nothing’s ever done until you decide it’s done. And then, even though you think it’s done, next time you turn around it’ll change again.

But if you think about it, that means there’s always room for improvement. Right? Just open your heart and mind beyond limit, my friend, to “this or something even better still.” This is where miracles can happen.

There’s no sense in putting a limit on how good it can get.

“If we have true yearning for realization, we must struggle, and through struggle growth will come. We shall make mistakes, but they may be angels unawares.”

~ Swami Vivekananda

I don’t know that anyone sets out on a path to intentionally struggle but anyone who’s truly living life is bound to struggle at some point. Read all you want, my friend, listen to other’s stories all you want, and determine to learn from it all. But nothing teaches the way that first hand experience does. Nothing.

Everything’s a gift, my friend, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

“Do what you feel in your heart to be right – for you’ll be criticized anyway.”

~ Eleanor Roosevelt

Whether others criticize you or not, your heart should be your only judge. At the end of the day, it’s how you feel in your heart that determines how well you sleep.

And, you know my friend, everything’s better after a good night’s sleep. Rest well in your heart.

“Silence is a great help to a seeker after truth like myself. In the attitude of silence, the soul finds the path in clearer light, and what is elusive and deceptive resolves itself into crystal clearness. Our life is a long arduous quest after truth, and the soul requires inward restfulness to attain its full height.”

~ Mahatma Gandhi

Do you make time for yourself to be in silence, my friend? He’s not referring above to just the absence of sound kind of silence, but the absence of thought kind of silence.

Every now and again we need a break from the thinker, the critic, and the analyzer portion of our brain. When they are active, as they most often are, there’s no room for Spirit to illuminate our path.

Go do your yoga, my friend, and allow for inner silence in your practice. A quiet mind, like an empty vessel, is able to receive the guidance that is ever present.

“Thoughts are like data programmed into a computer, registered on the screen of your life. If you don’t like what you see on the screen, there’s no point in going up to the screen and trying to erase it. Thought is Cause; experience is Effect. If you don’t like the effects in your life, you have to change the nature of your thinking.”

~ Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love

Have you discovered the connection between the thoughts you think and the way you feel? If not, it’s definitely worth exploring. Your life is a reflection of your overarching pattern of thoughts and the underlying beliefs. With awareness and diligence you’ll be able to reroute your ship.

Now, be patient with yourself, my friend. You didn’t get to where you are overnight nor will you get where you want to be overnight. Don’t expect to be able to master your thoughts immediately. Just take one step at a time, baby steps even, and remember that practice makes perfect.

“To people who have not claimed their power, the question “What would you do if it was your life to live?” doesn’t seem like a joke question! If you haven’t claimed your power, you will be led along by others. Your choices will be born out of the popular culture of your time, or a dominant person in your life.”

~ David Pond, The Pursuit of Happiness

Okay, my friend, let’s get something straight right off the bat, this IS your life to live. And next, let’s make sure you know that you have the RIGHT to be happy AND that only you can know what will make you truly happy.

So, are you living your dreams? Are you pursuing your dreams? Are you clear what your dreams are?

Your happiness is intimately tied to your dreams. Honor them. Move your dreams up in importance and recognize that all the reasons why you think you can’t pursue them are there because you’ve let them be there.

Open to possibilities, my friend, and let the world be your oyster.
