“This being human is a guest house. Every morning is a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor… Welcome and entertain them all. Treat each guest honorably. The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.”
~ Rumi
In the midst of the triumphs and travails of life in the body, it’s easy to forget that we are Spirit here to grow and evolve. Yet knowing this provides us with the perspective that makes it easier to appreciate life’s challenges, big and small, for the lessons they teach.
All of those guests Rumi’s referring to are just your emotions — your body’s response to the thoughts you’re thinking. So don’t shoot the messenger! Each one has been triggered by something. When you figure out what it is you’ll be one step closer to releasing it.
Remember, my friend, you’re more than just your body and ego. What you’re going through now is just one landscape of many on your daily journey through life. Try on Spirit’s perspective and you’ll see that, truly, it’s all good. Turn the obstacles into stepping stones and get ready for some stunning views!
There’s always more to come. Embrace it all.
