“In normal life we hardly realize how much more we receive than we give, and life cannot be rich without such gratitude. It is so easy to overestimate the importance of our own achievements compared with what we owe to the help of others.”
~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Letters and Papers from Prison
Who you are, what you are, where you are, your community, the conveniences of modern society, in every aspect of life as you know it, there is so much that has come before and laid the groundwork that’s created the experience you are now living. None of us has gotten to where we are without the help of others, whether we’re consciously aware of it or not.
And keep in mind, my friend, we benefit from everything, the obviously good to the obviously bad. Think back on those hard lessons learned, those ones you’ll never forget, and appreciate them for what they are: wisdom in the making.
Gratitude brings out the best in us. Isn’t it nice that there’s no shortage of things to be grateful for?
