“Sacrifice is the law of life. A candle burns and we make use of the light while it slowly dies. An incense stick gives us fragrance while becoming ash. Humans claim to be the highest species but we could learn a lesson from the tree, the candle, and the incense stick.”
~ Sri Swami Satchidananda, BEYOND WORDS
When there is something you want in your life, my friend, there will always be something else you’ll have to give up in order to receive what it is you want. There is always an exchange. This is what’s behind the saying, “you can’t have your cake and eat it too.”
Money has become our most common medium of exchange, but what about when it comes to your health? If you want to live a long and healthy life, then you have to give up being completely carefree about what and how much you eat and drink. If you want companionship, you’ll have to give up some alone time, right?
But beyond that notion of “sacrifice” is purpose. We are social creatures, my friend, and we all feel our best when we give back and in our own way contribute to the world.
Sacrifice is wonderful when we discover the gift that’s in the giving.
