“I am a lover of what is, not because I’m a spiritual person, but because it hurts when I argue with reality. We can know that reality is good just as it is, because when we argue with it, we experience tension and frustration. We don’t feel natural or balanced. When we stop opposing reality, action becomes simple, fluid, kind, and fearless.”
~ Byron Katie, Loving What Is
Life isn’t always the way we want it to be. It can be frustrating, painful, irritating, and even infuriating at times, but it is what it is and, as you might have noticed, when we fight it it just gets worse.
Every bit of struggle and suffering we experience is a result of resisting what is. Now, not all struggle and suffering is bad; after all this is how we discover our current limitations and build resilience. It’s just that our limitations don’t change by fighting them, they change by acknowledging, accepting, and surrendering to them.
Think of BeneFIT’s True Fix class as your training ground for dealing with life’s unpleasantries. Notice the pattern of finding your edge, struggling to go deeper, suffering in the moment, and then surrendering into Savasana. If progress isn’t tangible within class, say from first set to second set as it often is, you know you can count on it to be there eventually. And meanwhile, you get to bask in the bliss of the yoga high after every class!
