“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
~ Nelson Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom
The only time you feel good when you hate, my friend, is when you’re in a very low place. From the emotional states of despair, depression, or fear hatred is actually a step up. It feels better to hate than to be powerless. Make sense?
But while it may in a particular moment feel good to hate, it’s a few steps higher before you’ll get to a space where you can love. Everyone can make that shift higher; everyone can learn to love. In fact, with a little patience, compassion, understanding and forgiveness — towards one’s self and everyone and everything else — and that shift can happen fast!
Nothing feels better than love, my friend. You deserve it and so does everyone else.
