Spirit’s directing our attention to humility today. If you were to step back and take an honest assessment of how you feel about yourself and your actions and behaviors, would you consider yourself humble? Is your energy more in your head, operating through your finite mind and nature, or in your heart, operating through your Infinite nature?
Humility aligns us with Love. It removes any sense of superiority and leaves us open and teachable. It breaks through the barriers and judgments that cause a sense of separation between us and others and, most importantly, us and our Higher Selves. Humility brings us to the lowest common denominator of life and levels the playing field for all. With humility, we can see the Truth of who we all are, the spiritual essence in everyone and everything, and know that nothing else matters.
Surely you’ve been exposed to the word namaste at some point, or maybe namaskar. Namaste and namaskar mean the same thing. It’s a Sanskrit greeting, a Spirit-to-Spirit “Hello”, that acknowledges and honors the divinity at the heart of each of us, our Infinite nature. Though you might find it written frequently, the word isn’t necessarily spoken all that often. It’s expressed instead by the eye-to-eye contact and heart-to-heart connection with another made often while holding one’s palms together in prayer.
What does it take for us to find humility? For our walls of protection and pride to come down? I wonder if it’s a matter of feeling safe. Do we need to feel safe and secure enough that the level of criticism, punishment, or harsh judgments that we expect will come at us won’t be too much for us to handle? Do we believe that we have to be perfect (something impossible) or better than others to be loved and accepted? I don’t know if you’ve ever allowed yourself to experience it yet, but surrendering pride feels good. It’s such a relief! All the pretenses drop away and you discover you’re none the worse for it. In fact, you experience oneness with Life.
Sometimes we simply forget that we’re more than just our physical bodies and what our five physical senses can detect. Let’s not forget that our breath connects us with Spirit, the Life Force Energy that creates worlds. That part of us has all the answers to our questions and solutions to our problems. Humility acknowledges that we’re only a shell without It. Life is so much better and easier when we have the humility to hand over the reins to Spirit.
One thing is for sure. Simply by virtue of the fact that we’re alive and breathing, that the same animating Spirit in all of us is in us, makes us each worthy of love, imperfections and all. You know, by honoring and acknowledging that animating Spirit at the heart of each person you come across or even think of you bring more of it to the surface, not just in them, but in yourself as well. Try it.
